The Lazy Curl Method
Step Four
The Dry
The fourth step in The Lazy Curl Method. The dry gives the final look and is the finish line for the routine.
The main ways to dry curly hair
The best results are usually achieved one of tow ways, or by a combination of both – air-drying or defuse-drying. The right option for you will depend on your individual needs and the amount of effort or time you would like to put into your hair.
Air drying is by far the simplest approach to the dry, and requires the least amount of effort or skill. Air drying usually results in a stronger ‘cast’, more curl definition and less frizz, but also less volume than defuse drying.
Defuse drying nearly always gives a superior result to air drying, but takes more effort. Defuse drying gives us more volume and a tighter curl, but if rushed or done ineffectively can result in a frizzier result.
How to air dry
1. After applying The Products and with your hair still completely wet, distribute your hair into place, raking with your hands or by using a wet brush (e.g denman brush).
2. Scrunch your hair and encourage your curl pattern. Consider using small clips at the roots where your hair parts to elevate your hair for volume.
3. Let hair dry completely, taking care not to disturb or move your curls as the product sets into a ‘cast’.
4. Once completely dry, remove any clips and gently scrunch your curls to soften them and give them more volume. Consider putting your head upside down and lightly shaking your roots for even more volume.
How to defuse dry
1. After applying The Products and with your hair still completely wet, distribute your hair into place with your hands. Squeeze out excess moisture from your ends with a microfiber towel. Consider using small clips at the roots to elevate your hair for volume.
2. Set your defuser to medium heat, low fan speed, then ‘hover defuse’, applying heat to your hair from a small distance. Spend 3-5 mins on this step, focusing on your ends.
3. Once your ends have started to dry, and the product has started to harden into a ‘cast’, carefully flip your hair over to one side, keeping your head completely tilted.
4. Set you defuser to low heat, low fan speed. Either continue to ‘hover defuse’, focusing on your roots, or ‘Pixie defuse’ your ends and roots in sections – carefully collect your hair into the cup of the defuser, bring it right up to the roots. Remain still for 30-60 seconds, using the cool button intermittently if the heat becomes too much. Work your way round to the back in sections.
5. Carefully flip your hair over to the other side, keeping your head completely tilted. Repeat step 4. On thick hair, you may have to repeat this process, tilting from side to side and pixie defusing until roughly 2/3rds of the way dry.
6. Tilt your head right back and gently shake your head to distribute your curls. At this point you should notice a lot of volume, and that the product is starting to harden your curls into a ‘cast’. Continue to defuse in natural fall until completely dry.
7. Once dry, gently scrunch your curls to soften them and give them more volume. Consider putting your head upside down and lightly shaking your roots for even more volume.
